4 Best Ways to De-Stress at Work

4 Best Ways to De-Stress at the Office

Today is National Stress Awareness Day, which is ironic because if you clicked on this you probably don’t need us to be aware that you are stressed. But how do we manage our stress? Especially when we spend 8+ hours in the place that from time to time is a big cause of our stress? The next time you’re feeling a little overwhelmed at your desk take a break and try out some of our tips to quickly recover.

Change the Background Noise

Stress can sometimes feel like the background noise of our lives. It just rings in the back of our heads regardless of what we are doing. One way to immediately divert that energy is to change the channel on the noise. If throwing your favorite playlist on isn’t enough to distract you, try a podcast. Whether it’s Serial, Modern Love or Happier, we’re sure you’ll find a podcast to get you refocused!

Jot it Down

There is NOTHING worse than stressing about stress. So take a step back from your computer, grab a piece of paper and pen and jot down all the things that are on your mind. You will be surprised by the therapeutic nature of just writing down what’s weighing on you. You’ll also be able to wrap your mind around everything you’ve got going on in your world and be more prepared to take action.

Walk around the Block

All it takes is a 5 or 10-minute jaunt around the block to release some of that physical tension that builds up while you’re sitting at your desk during a day. Get up, stretch your legs, change the scenery and grab some fresh air. You’ll come back to the office immediately refreshed and ready to take on the remainder of your to-do list.

Take-Two for You

Whether you sit at your desk, head up to the break room or find your peace and quiet elsewhere in the office, try a simple meditation. All you have to do is throw on your headphones and try out one of the many apps that facilitates re-centering, personally we’re big fan’s of the app Calm and it’s guided, timed meditations are essentially fool proof. And before you laugh it off, just remember, if it’s good enough for Oprah, Kobe Bryant, Arianna Huffington and Jerry Seinfeld, it’s probably good enough for you.
