Inspirational Women Tech Leaders to Follow

In honor of International Women’s Day, we're highlighting a few of the most inspirational women tech leaders. These leaders are making a huge impact on the industry through their hard work, dedication, and innovation — making waves in a historically male-dominated field.


Kathryn Finney, Founder & CEO of digitalundivided | Twitter

Finney’s organization, digitalundivided, aims to give Black women tech founders tools for success including training, connections, and funding. In 2018, the company issued ProjectDiane, a biennial demographic survey that showed the number of Black woman-led startups has more than doubled since 2016. Finney is also the author of “Build the Damn Thing,” a forthcoming guide for marginalized entrepreneurs.

Danah Boyd, Founder and President of Data & Society | Twitter

Boyd is a nationally recognized thought leader known for founding her own research institute, Data & Society, which addresses the ethical and legal implications of emerging technologies. She also serves as a partner researcher at Microsoft. Boyd is currently studying the U.S. census.

Dr. Fei-Fei Li, Co-Director of Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute | Twitter

Dr. Li, a Stanford Professor and Co-Director of Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute, inspires those in the tech industry with her ImageNet project, a database of more than 15 million images that helped “train” the first computer to understand what’s in a picture. Dr. Li also co-founded AI4ALL, a nonprofit that strives to improve diversity in the tech field.


Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX | Twitter

Shotwell, who boasts experience researching and developing policies for commercial space exploration for the FAA and NASA, joined SpaceX in 2002 as Vice President of Business Development. She has since rose through the ranks to become President and COO, overseeing the company’s operations, outreach, and development.


Aarthi Ramamurthy, Head of International at Clubhouse and Founder of Lumoid | Twitter

Ramamurthy boasts an extensive resume in the tech industry with positions working at Microsoft and Netflix. Most recently, she founded a tech startup, Lumoid, that allows users to try out electronic gear and equipment before they buy it. Ramamurthy currently is Head of International at Clubhouse, a startup with a mobile app that promotes “the most unlikely collisions of people” through subject-based chat rooms, the company said on its website.
