Our Guide to an Awesome Summer in St. Louis

summer inthe Lou

Every summer like clockwork, St. Louis as a city seems to come alive. It’s as if the second May rolls around, it becomes a game to one up your friends on who can fit the most activities into this four month period. And while we may have some heat and humidity, this does little to deter people from getting outside and taking full advantage of all the region has to offer! So if you’re wondering if living and working in St. Louis might be something you’re interested in, here’s a list of some of our top summer time activities in the Lou!

Can it truly be a St. Louis list without some mention of a sports team? Especially the Cardinals! This one is really self-explanatory, we just thought we’d go ahead and get it out of the way.

The Muny (Municipal Theatre Association of St. Louis), puts on incredible reproductions of some of our favorite pieces of musical theatre throughout the summer months in Forest Park. This year’s shows include The Little Mermaid, Jesus Christ Superstar, A Chorus Line and Newsies to name a few!

Almost every Wednesday in the summer, the Botanical Garden hosts the Whitaker Music Festival which brings evening concerts to the Lou under the stars. Guests are invited to bring their own picnics and drinks or purchase them at the garden!

Less than 30 minutes from downtown St. Louis, you’ll find a world class theme park in Six Flags St. Louis. Not a fan of the summer heat? No worries, they’ve got an incredible water park as well!

The Soulard Farmers Market, established in 1779 is almost as old as this country! To this day the market remains a thriving hot spot for local grub! And though it’s open year round Wednesday thru Saturday, summer is when it’s truly in full force!

July 1st to the 4th kicks off a weekend of fun events, starting with America’s Birthday Parade through downtown St. Louis, the first time the parade was held was in 1878 and has continued on a way for St. Louis to celebrate both its individual history and our country’s! The next three days continue with Fair St. Louis. “America’s Biggest Birthday Party”. Best part, it’s all FREE!

Who says you need to go to Napa for great wine? Here in the St. Louis region we have the incredible wineries of Augusta, Saint Genevieve and Herman all less than a two hour drive away!

If you work in Downtown St. Louis or find yourself down there for client meetings, Lunchtime Live is a great way to switch up your lunch routine! Live music and a bevy of food and shopping trucks to visit! Or bring your bag lunch, grab a seat and enjoy the beats! Check out Downtown St. Louis’ Facebook page for upcoming dates!

Looking for a fun spot for your animal loving friend (or yourself), Purina Farms is the spot! Go check out their Pro Plan Performance Team dogs on the agility course, or say hello to both their domestic and farm animals!

Be sure to visit one the most infamous custard (or concrete if you want to talk like a real St. Louisan) stand in the Midwest, Ted Drewes. We’d love to give you a suggestion on what to get, but you LITERALLY can’t go wrong with anything at Ted Drewes.

As its name suggests, it’s a park with sculpture in it but the effect is more along the lines of an outdoor, interactive art museum. This space truly takes the collaboration of nature and art to a whole other level.

Swing by the lake at Art Hill in Forest Park to rent a paddle boat! If you want to take it a step further, they offer moonlight paddleboat picnics on Thursday nights, but book quickly since they fill up fast!
